SUBLIMINAL – SUBLIME

In this workshop we will be looking at different trance techniques, stemming from mystic Sufism, Shamanism, hypnosis and clubbing from around the world and have it inform our dancing. Building a performance skill set that will allow us to improvise from a place where we do not make the decision but act as conduits for that which needs to be expressed, allowing us to communicate on multiple levels simultaneously.
Gilles Polet first trained as an actor at the Lemmensinsituut in Leuven before he moved to Leeds to study at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. He graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels in 2008. Since graduating he has been working as a freelance performance artist with David Zambrano, Jan Fabre and many others.
In 2014 Gilles Polet left to Iran to do a research on dance where it is forbidden. This took him on a journey deep into the mystical teachings of the Jorason Sufi’s in Kermanshah. It became a very big influence on Gilles Polet’s own work ‘Simurg’ and ‘Conference of Birds’.
In 2018 he started a new research on altered states and shamanic practices, studying with Corinne Sombrun. Besides touring his own solo ‘Simurgh’, he is performing in the 24h marathon ‘Mount Olympus’ of Troubleyn/Jan Fabre and performing in ‘I put a Spell on You’ by Ehsan Hemat.
