RelaxtoErupt
by Lewis Cooke
RelaxtoErupt is a physically demanding movement methodology helping to discover 0% – 100% of energy and tension within the body and its capacity of movement. RelaxtoErupt workshop will focus on utilizing how expansive the body can be whilst moving in and out of the flow. We will also explore what movements are habitual and uncomfortable when moving in and out of the floor and I will share my principles on how to deal with this. RelaxtoErupt focuses on playfulness, curiosity and a desire to search for new patterns and pathways. I am keen to remove the fear factor in “acrobatics” and floorwork by always creating a safe and positive environment to work in. Accepting and understanding that without failure we will not learn or develop new movements.
The practice delves into the different types of disciplines Lewis has studied and is influenced by contemporary, floor work, boxing, kathak and movement practicality. It’s also influenced by the artists he has worked with such as Akram Khan, Alleyne Dance, Anton Lachky. Lewis is also a researcher for Ferus Animi // Terra Nova, a group of cross-disciplinary craftspersons researching in the fields of human physiology and performance, through both an artistic and scientific lens.
