Functionality and Perspective (release) & Your Own God, Intensive Improvisation
by Judith Sánchez Ruíz
About the workshop:
“I teach and train dancers for: technical functionality, creative instinct, high performance, and transformation.
Sharing my system of research and discovery while unraveling performers’ full potential”. JSR
Morning Training – Functionality & Perspective in Dance:
These morning classes are based on the 10 years investigation of Judith Sánchez Ruíz on the release technique. Participants will focus on the importance of being grounded, creating an understanding of the shifting of weight, clarity of movement, attention to detail, precision, and dynamics in a multidirectional approach. This practice will lead to very specific qualities of functional and organic movement while working with the imagination and the improvisation within. Functionality & Perspective give the dancers many ways to understand movement’s initiation in the body that allow them to understand the functionality from a creative approach. These sessions will encourage the body to question and practice task-oriented exercises, equations, and scores.
Afternoon Workshop – Your Own God, Intensive Improvisation:
Your Own God’s departed from JSR’s choreographic process and experience as a performer from diverse techniques and styles throughout her long international career.
Your Own God’s tools sourced methodologies, and practical exercises unlock the mind from imitative academic dogma, imposing mainstream styles, and decorative contents. And focus on individual wake-up innate potential from a functional point of view and artistic platform to strengthen possibilities and document basic tools. The workshop uses a methodologic that focuses on specificity and allows cognitive transformative artistic experimentation when composing work. Simultaneously, the mind and the performative body gather confidence in their process and creative outcome individually and as a collective. This workshop will trigger your un/comfortable zone and play with breaking habits, it will guide you to look for the unknown exploration of different approaches to the movement, and develop movement in composition with space and in a relationship with others.
