4 weeks Flying Low and Passing Through Intensive

A 20 days workshop diving into an extensive-intensive learning experience, to achieve deep knowledge of Flying Low and Passing Through, transmitted by David Zambrano himself, with the possibilty of an extended Passing Through week.

Flying Low
This workshop focuses mainly on the dancer’s relationship with the floor. The class utilizes simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed and the release of energy throughout the body in order to activate the relationship between the centre and the joints, moving in and out of the ground more efficiently by maintaining a centered state. There is a focus on the skeletal structure that will help improve the dancer’s physical perception and alertness. The class includes partnering work and movement phrases, which explore the primary laws of physics: cohesion and expansion.

When one is moving, the whole room is moving with one. The image of the body constantly spiraling, whether running dancing, walking dancing or standing dancing is the main practice during the whole class. Working with spirals helps the dancers go into the floor and out of the floor with ease, and also helps the dancers to see themselves and the room from all sides. The spirals propel the class all over the room, both on the ground and upright. This is the flying low technique.

Bei der Herstellung von Bewegungskompositionen konzentriert sich David Zambrano auf die Schaffung und Entwicklung der Dynamik komplexer Systeme, um Führung in Form eines Gruppennetzes zu präsentieren. In der Wissenschaft brauchen Zellen keinen Proteinführer, um Leben zu schaffen. Ebenso wenig braucht das Gehirn einen Proteinleiter, um einen Gedanken zu erschaffen. In diesem Sinne ist Zambrano der Meinung, dass Bewegung in der Schöpfung keinen Anführer braucht.

Das "Passing Through" führt die Teilnehmer durch verschiedene Übungen, um diese Philosophie zu manifestieren. Die Gruppe wird eine Dynamik entwickeln, die flexibel und komplex ist und die Gruppe dazu bringt, sich eng aneinander zu schmiegen, dabei aber immer die Türen für das Unerwartete offen hält. Die Gruppe bewegt sich ständig und verwandelt die Umgebung des Tanzes. Nach der Teilnahme am "Passing Through" werden die Teilnehmer lernen, sich sofort mit ihrer Umgebung zu verbinden und spontanere Entscheidungen zu treffen, sei es als Improvisator, Choreograph oder Tänzer in einem fremden Werk.

Die Biografie von David Zambrano:
David Zambrano ist seit mehr als 40 Jahren eine herausragende Persönlichkeit in der internationalen Tanzszene, und seine Leidenschaft für den kulturellen Austausch prägt auch weiterhin seine Arbeit. Zambrano ist ein Botschafter und Verbindungsmann über viele Grenzen hinweg, der Künstler aus der ganzen Welt für seine Projekte zusammenbringt. Er hat seine eigene Art zu tanzen in mehr als 75 Ländern unterrichtet und ist an Hunderten von Veranstaltungsorten auf der ganzen Welt aufgetreten. Seine Stücke reichen von festgelegten Choreografien über strukturierte Improvisationen bis hin zu reiner Improvisation. Der in Venezuela geborene Zambrano verbrachte 15 Jahre in New York und lebt heute zwischen Amsterdam und Brüssel. Im Jahr 2018 gründete er das Tictac Art Centre als künstlerische Homebase.

There will be a selection procedure for attending this intensive. You can find the application form here.
Selections will be announced on February 15th, April 1st and July 1st. If after that there are still vacant places and you apply, you will hear within 2 weeks.

Post-Intensive Passing Through week:
The following week of this Intensive David Zambrano opens the possibility to artists who have already attended a Passing Through Intensive and know the composition fully, to join for an ONLY Passing Through week. Attendants of the 4 week intensive are welcome and encouraged to prolongate their experience and register as well for the Post Intensive week. It offers and opportunity to practice and develop further the Passing Through with David Zambrano and other like-“minded” (cq. experienced) dancers in a different group constellation.

Opportunities to prepare for the intensive:
David Zambrano is sharing Flying Low and Improvisation workshops throughout 2025 at Tictac. You can attend one of these shorter workshops to taste the work, and also for David to get to know you in realtime to make it easier for the selection process.
