Martial arts – Wushu tools for contemporary dancer
This intensive workshop bridges the philosophical depth and physical tools of traditional Wushu—including stance structures, spirals, and explosive power release. Participants will explore short martial phrases, such as Shaolin, Sunbin Quan, and Bagua, tuning into their sensation of these functional principles to embody them within their own forms.
Through Wushu’s core concept of the “”imaginary opponent,”” dancers will channel internal combat into a layered creative process where every movement embodies rhythm, precision, and heightened presence. The training demands high physical engagement, focusing on deep intention and the efficient activation of Dantian and pelvic strength over external force. By aligning the central axis between earth and sky, participants will dissolve internal-external boundaries, navigating gravity, timing, and energetic flow to unlock a natural strength deeply rooted in the earth through somatic perception, connecting intimately with the environment.
