Drawing Dance

Visual artist and musician Peter Jacquemyn will be leading a drawing workshop, during BrutMovement@Tictac. The focus will be: how to paint bodies in motion. Part of the class will happen in the small studio on drawing technique with charcoal. Another part will happen in the big studio studio, where the drawing participants will exercise drawing with the dancers of the Brut Movement workshop as models. “While drawing the hand makes a move, this movement leaves a trace, the accumulation of traces generates a form, a content, a story. Paul Klee, a renowned painter, once said: “a drawing is a line that goes walking”. For this week …. let your drawing be a line that goes dancing.” -Peter Jacquemyn

Peter has been a guest artist in Tictac Art Centre various times, as a musician, performer and also as a visual artist in the gallery, with an exhibition where he drew daily in the dance studio. He has also brought a few times his students of Sint Luka to develop drawing dance. This time the opportunity will be yours …

This workshop can be attended by anyone interested in the topic, by performing artist as well as visual artists: dancers, dance lovers, visual artists, musicians, etc… with any experience.

Peter Jacquemyn’s biography:

Peter Jacquemyn (1963 Brussels) moves easily between the visual arts and music. As a sculptor he assaults tree trunks with axe and chainsaw. His concerts are just as spectacular: with unbridled energy he lovingly wrestles his double bass. It is a battle in which all means are fair: bows (1, 2 or 3), dented soda cans, plastic bags, crumpled paper, mutes, horns, retuned strings, ….
All of this ranges Peter Jacquemyn among Belgium’s most interesting improvisers with a very justified international reputation.
